iberico bar: true lard leaves no traces

thumbnail imagethumbnail imagethumbnail imagethumbnail imagethumbnail imagethumbnail image

Anyone who knows me well will likely know of my affection for Spanish cuisine, a passion which rivals and in many ways, surpasses even my love for ramen. Admittedly, I don’t eat noodles nearly as much as I used to. A steady diet of Mediterranean influence - fish and tomatoes, olive oil and beans, has replaced a lot of my gonzo noodle slurping in recent months. In part this has to do with health; all those fats and carbs have to go somewhere, and as relatively young as (I’d like to think) I am, it’s never too early to cut back on the calories and perhaps spare a few arteries in the process.

click meclick meclick meclick meclick meclick meclick meclick meclick meclick meclick me Ringing in the new year at Hakata Shin-Sen-Gumi has become something of a Rameniac tradition. Open until 5am on New Year’s Eve, the foremost purveyor of Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen in Southern California transforms into a rowdy after-hours collective of off-duty employees and Japanese expats. This year was no exception, as a few friends and I made our drunken, post-partying way down to Gardena somewhere in the neighborhood of 2am. By the time we were seated and eating, it was nearly 3 in the morning. Happy 2007 everyone!!!

got flash game?

Here’s a ramen cooking flash game that I stumbled upon during the night’s bout of insomniac web surfing. I can’t typically be bothered to read directions and I’m definitely not much of a cook, so I just wound up moving a superflat-inspired piece of shrimp around the screen for thirty seconds. There’s some oddly soothing lullabye-type music, however. Maybe it’s time to go to bed after all…

I haven't quite figured out how this works yet, but this super sentai "Akiba Henshin" instant ramen apparently changes flavor while you eat it, from shoyu to tonkotsu and back. Available at Akiba Noodle, an Akihabara (where else?) instant noodle specialty shop. Yeah. You know you want some.
