iberico bar: true lard leaves no traces

Anyone who knows me well will likely know of my affection for Spanish cuisine, a passion which rivals and in many ways, surpasses even my love for ramen. Admittedly, I don’t eat noodles nearly as much as I used to. A steady diet of Mediterranean influence - fish and tomatoes, olive oil and beans, has replaced a lot of my gonzo noodle slurping in recent months. In part this has to do with health; all those fats and carbs have to go somewhere, and as relatively young as (I’d like to think) I am, it’s never too early to cut back on the calories and perhaps spare a few arteries in the process.

Has the Japanese Board of Tourism seen this site? If this keeps up, I should at least get a lifetime of comps at Toyoku Inn. A stack of Japan Rail Passes wouldn’t be bad either, as unlimited access to the fastest train network in the world was what afforded me the recent opportunity to, oh, hop on and off the shinkansen for a quick bite in Kobe, where, I was surprised and slightly disappointed to learn, they don’t just call it beef.

they’re baaack…

Has it been a year already? Mitsuwa Marketplace is back with their annual Hokkaido Fair food festival. Regale yourself with the ramen stylings of Asameshi Maeda Honpo, Sumire, and Santouka over the course of the next two weekends at various Mitsuwa Marketplace locations throughout the United States.

The schedule is as follows:

Asamesh Maeda Honpo 9/11(Thu) - 9/14(Sun)
9/18(Thu) - 9/21(Sun)
Costa Mesa
New Jersey
Sumire 9/11(Thu) - 9/14(Sun)
9/18(Thu) - 9/21(Sun)
Torrance
Chicago
Santouka 9/18(Thu) - 9/21(Sun) San Jose

For all you Bay Area noodlers, the Mitsuwa website touts Santouka as having the "#1 ranking in L.A." (gee, I wonder where they got that idea? ^^) Asameshi Maeda and especially Sumire should just open permanent U.S. branches already and be done with it. The world would be a better place for sure.

these are pretty much self-explanatory, but…

Chalk it up to the Celestine Prophecy or something, but today I received two different tips about two different ramen vending machines! I was just talking to my bud Eddie over at Deep End Dining about these. Invasion of the ramen-dispensing robots? There's one nestled in a boba shop in the heart of Los Angeles' Koreatown. At four dollars a pop, it's apparently quite the rip-off...
