this is in response to the ‘nissin or maruchan’ survey. oKarma whilst in the UK, is powered by solely pot noodles (THE FUEL OF BRITAIN!), especially the ones that pop out of vending machines. when not desparate for a quick fix, oKarma will get to the nearest Waitrose to stock up! Pot Noodle Bombay Bad Boy!

my sister just sent me a big box full of pot noodle. i’ma start reviewing them soon, perhaps at my own peril hehehe…

hah absolutely. prepare to be amazed.

I remember my first experience with Pot Noodle when I went to England for a training course. Although I was stuck in the countryside I managed to find a Sainsbury near the inn I was staying at. Thinking I might need some snacks for the room, I picked up one Pot Noodle along with some Ribena Spark and some Cadbury Flake bars. I figured Pot Noodle had to at least be something like el cheapo Maruchan you get from your local Ralphs or Vons.
 
I was so wrong.
 
It was pretty nasty and I don’t think I even go through half of it before I chugged down that tasty Ribena Spark and chased the bad flavor out of my mouth with both Cadbury Flake bars. I remember it having the most peculiar “flavor” and being really sludgy. Perhaps they’ve improved it. I will have to sneak over to Rameniac’s lair when he’s testing some of these out…

I just ate a “beef tomato” flavored pot noodle. cor blimey! urgh.

oKarma believes that it is impossible nowadays to have less than orgasmic moments whilst indulging in british food. look at the array of cuisine available - scotch eggs, brie and grape sandwiches, curry-flavoured mash, jaffa cakes, the british fry… the list has no end.

oKarma is mental about britain and everything to do with the country that has given the world wheetabix and tom jones. oKarma refuses to believe that british nourriture is unpalatabe, as much as boy george and freddy mercury could possibly be gay.

don’t forget blood sarsage! mm hmm.

being so unfortunate to live in the UK, I can only suggest that you avoid all costs Pot noodle and *the-noodle-that-shall-not-be-named (it rhymes with pooper Strudle)

While a fan of decent UK food, most of the convenience stuff is only good for taking up space in the cupboards till you throw it out, we do have access to some wonderful international foods and many Anglicised Foreign styles that are unique in their own way, I just find it depressing that my nearest Ramen Dispensary is 120km away, oh well down to the local Thai Super market, and I have to cook my Own.

BTW Black Pudding and Haggis are the Greatest!!!

oKarma has at least four flavours of pot noodle on his laboratory desk shelf, for emergency rations.

i heard that wagamama isn’t really japanese at all, and has a melange of thai or other east-asian influenced dishes.

oKarma will just have to go to santouka when he’s in los angeles then!

wagamama’s actually opened by a dude from hong kong, if i remember correctly.

do you have bombay bad boy? my sister just sent me that. i’m kind of afraid to try it, lest i be disappointed. then again…

yes indeed oKarma has tried bombay bad boy! it’s a think curry-esque flavour with a sachet of chutney. very interesting in its own right.

but as some of you may know, oKarma has no palate for real J-food, where as rameniac has had the real hakata stuff. so don’t take my rave reviews of bombay bad boy to heart.

i’ma load up my desi hip hop playlist when i crack that bad boy open!

Ok title of this thread enticed to look at my nearest outlet, Just found out that Wamagama opened up in Newcastle Last year only 37 mins away on a train (wahh no-one told me *pout*).

My saturday which was going to be spent doing assorted dullness till I went the pub, is now going to be a mid afternoon feast, possibly some shopping and I might stay till later I remember there was a reasonable Korean resteraunt around there somewhere (It has been a couple of years since I went to toonland)

they have korean food in the uk? times they are a’changin…
