It originally went on sale Aug 25, 1958.

ok..let me start with my own recipe :

to do so you will need the folowing ingredients:

-1 Shyn Ramyun
-1 Egg
-Mushrooms
-Green onions
-Shrimps

hell yeah this recipe is very simple

first of all you cut mushrooms in little slices

u cut the amount of green onions u want

u make boil the egg with is shell

u take the shrimps and you cook em wit a lil bit of oil util they become a little crispy ^^

u can boil or cook the mushrooms and onions

Now our egg must be ready you crack it out of his shell and cut it in half (i normaly add a little bit of paprika on the yellow section of the egg making my ramen looks even more delicious)

you boil the noodles and when its ready u put it on your Bowl with the vegetables and the shrimps and for the final touch you add the eggs on top ..(by the way i love adding some saussage when im real Hungy)ITS FABULICIOUS ^^ enjoy

How many of you guys (and gals) lick your instant noodle seasoning packets after you’ve emptied them into the bowl? Them’s “satchets” I’m talking about, for all you Brits and Aussies.

Instant ramen recommendations?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if you guys and gals had any good recommendations for relatively easily procured instant ramen brands (here in the Bay Area, if that matters), particularly in the shio and/or tonkotsu vein. Maybe something along the lines of Santouka (my hands-down favorite ramen house)? Kurume Taiho looks like it fits the bill, but I’ve yet to find it anywhere at any Mitsuwa or Nijiya I’ve been to.

instant ramen: fresh vs. fried

i love the idea that i can cook some ramen, throw in an egg, some vegetables, and have a quick snack, however, i don’t want to have a stroke from all that damn sodium.i haven’t achieved that level of dedication. besides, my blood pressure is borderline as it is.

are the fresh instant ramen noodles any better than the ones fried in palm oil, or is all the salt in the packet?

are you down with MSG?

fascinating and highly informative article about umami, the “fifth taste,” and the origins of our beloved flavour enhancer. we learn that it was a chinese doctor named Ho Man Kwok who started all the paranoid furor over harmful side effects in MSG while “eating NORTHERN CHINESE FOOD.”

so basically this all started cuz a southern canto-dude had it out for ngoy gok chan or non-cantonese chinese cooking!!!

locally, this is acknowledged as the best instant saimin, which is what we call ramen in hawaii.

found out about this site via forwarded la times article. thought i was the only ramen lover.

there was a place here many years ago called “mr. ramen”. the owner made both his own broth and noodles. i used to eat breakfast there several times a week, until he closed shop for good. the flavor of the broth was consistent as was the noodles.

my quest for the perfect ramen started then. as we owned a specialty market at the time, i finally decided to see if i could develop the perfect serving of saimin to eat as well as sell.

several of my friends knew of my passion and they would give me noodles from different noodle shops. one of these samples was made right here in town. the owner made his own noodles and used a prepackaged concentrated liquid broth that was beef-shoyu based from japan. so what we did was purchase the noodles and broth and added a whole dried scallop and kim chee that was also made locally. this was a very popular seller. later on, we added a deluxe version that had bean sprouts, watercress and chinese style roast pork added. as all good things must come to an end, the mad cow problem stopped the importation of the broth from japan.

back to square one. remembering the noodles that i got earlier, i contacted the factory that made the other noodle that i liked and found out that the only broth they had was dried. all i had to do was find a similar broth that was liquid and shoyu based. after much phone calls, i finally found a chicken based broth was was made by the same factory as the beef based one. we again had our saimin again. i’ve been eating it almost every morning for breakfast for over 7 years....maybe it’s been over 10 years!

in my limited travels, mostly here in the state and the west coast and las vegas, i have yet to find an outstanding bowl of ramen in a restaurant. usually, my main complaint is that the noodles are overcooked. this is even true for the much respected saimin specialty shops in hawaii.

i will definitely visit santouka at mistuwa’s when i visit la this summer.

Hey folks,

This is my first post...I love the website by the way...it’s such an amazing resource for Angelinos such as myself. Thanks for all the work you put in to it....Felicitations aside, I was wondering if anybody here as ever had Goota Ramen...it’s simply the best instant ramen I’ve ever had...it’s got flavor and punch that most instant noodles simply don’t have. They carry it only occassionally at Mitsuwa (Torrance and Little Tokyo)...perhaps because it’s pricey. They have several flavors...I’ve only tried a few though. See the vid below for an example of what it looks like

Pot Noodle Bombay Bad Boy!
