iberico bar: true lard leaves no traces
by rameniac | 09 Mar 2011
Anyone who knows me well will likely know of my affection for Spanish cuisine, a passion which rivals and in many ways, surpasses even my love for ramen. Admittedly, I don’t eat noodles nearly as much as I used to. A steady diet of Mediterranean influence - fish and tomatoes, olive oil and beans, has replaced a lot of my gonzo noodle slurping in recent months. In part this has to do with health; all those fats and carbs have to go somewhere, and as relatively young as (I’d like to think) I am, it’s never too early to cut back on the calories and perhaps spare a few arteries in the process.

miso hungry
by rameniac | 17 Sep 2010

Yet another September is upon us, which means it’s time once again for Mitsuwa Marketplace’s Hokkaido Fair. A couple of Sapporo miso ramen shops are making the rounds this time; Ramen Shingen has been here before, while Komaoka Ramen will be flipping bowls of spicy miso ramen like burgers on an In N’ Out grill. For all you non-West Coasters who’ve never had In N’ Out, at least you can experience the Hokkaido Fair in Chicago and New Jersey, where there also happens to be Mitsuwa. Mitsuwae? Mitsuwas? Whatever. Go forth, and eat.
hide-ing out in plain sight

Word out of
Grub Street is that Hide-chan ramen is now in business in New York City. Another new ramen shop in the Big Apple? Nota bene: this one comes with an
excellent pedigree, as Hide-chan is opened by one Hide Kawahara, mastermind behind Hakata's most excellent
Hide-chan, Daruma and Shodai Daruma ramen joints. Youse lucky New Yorkers don't know how lucky youse are.
big love to hideki k., grub street, and midtown lunch
